Wine taverns and traditional „Besenwirtschaften“

It was the Romans who first appreciated the Keuper landscape near Pfedelbach, Bretzfeld and Öhringen. They too were aware that the ground here was very suitable for growing grape vines, which allowed them to produce delicious wine. The top layers of Keuper land often contain a high amount of grit which supports the ground heat and the substance of the wine. The ground of some vineyards even consists of “Gipskeuper”, which allows the produce of full-flavoured wines.
